Borobudur Mawayang at Borobudur Art Village Celebrates PT TWB's 1st Anniversary

PT Taman Wisata Borobudur presents a cultural parade and shadow puppet show entitled Borobudur Mawayang with the play Sang Rahvana which was held at the Borobudur Art Village Hall, Friday (12/12/2025).

The series of events commemorating PT TWB's first anniversary served as a meeting place for cultural figures and artists across generations. Ki Sujiwo Tejo and Ki Sindhunata GW performed in collaboration with young puppeteers in an artistic package that integrated traditional values into a contemporary context.

The play Sang Rahvana presents a re-reading of the character of Rahwana, King of Alengka, who is depicted as a leader with great courage and ambition. For the prosperity of his country, Rahwana embarks on a path filled with dilemmas, challenging the boundaries between good and evil.

In the story, Rahwana is faced with a bitter fate after all his brothers and children died on the Brontoyudo Palwogo-Kolo battlefield, a great war between the apes and giants.

The conflict culminates when Rahwana must face Sri Rama Wijaya in his quest to marry Dewi Sinta, his beloved. The big question arises: can Rahwana change fate and win this final battle?

In this story, all of his brothers and children died on the battlefield of Brontoyudo Palwogo-Kolo, a great war between the apes and giants. This epic tale is reenacted amidst the sacred atmosphere of Borobudur.

By combining a clean energy agenda and a cultural stage, Borobudur Art Village asserts its position as a meeting place between the past and the future—a place where tradition is nurtured, innovation is fostered, and sustainability is a shared foundation.

Amidst the magnificent stupas of Borobudur, the story of Rahwana is presented with an artistic approach designed to provide a puppetry experience in a broader and more contemporary stage format.

Meanwhile, Ki Sujiwo Tejo called the Rahvana play a cultural momentum that was deliberately held on Friday afternoon, with the hope of providing a space for reflection while preserving the spirit of puppetry in the Borobudur area as a world cultural heritage.
